Background & Objectives

  • Uganda aims to reach middle-income status by 2020, with significant progress seen over the past two decades. The Vision 2040 outlines strategies to leverage economic opportunities, especially in agriculture. Uganda has diversified its exports beyond traditional products like coffee, tea, cotton, and tobacco, now including fish, cocoa, flowers, fruits, and vegetables, which have contributed to increased export earnings and competitiveness.

Activities

  • R1: Resistant varieties are developed and brought to market for multiplication.

  • R2: Reduced production, harvest and post-harvest losses and increased marketing opportunities for small-holders.

  • R3: Increased small-holders price incentive through diversification into higher value export markets.

  • R4: Strengthened institutional capacities for trade analysis, market surveillance and project management
