Background & Objectives
- Regional Disparities: Health and nutrition gaps in Afar, Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambela, and Somali. Access Issues: Limited health services and high refugee populations.
- Multi-sectoral Approach: Health Sector Development Plan (HSDP) to improve health and access. Focus Areas: Nutrition, water, sanitation, family planning, and harmful practices.
- EU-funded Program: Part of the Social Determinants of Health for Gender Equality. Support Levels: Federal and DRS levels, focusing on women, girls, and children. Goals: Reduce poverty and promote inclusive growth.
- Grant Management Training: Training for staff on grant management. Activity Management Support: Assist RHB with activities. Proposal Development: Aid in developing Regional Grant proposals. Reporting: Compile bi-annual grant reports. Research Collaboration: Baseline surveys and impact evaluations.
Activities
- Technical support for gender and situation analysis in DRS to identify critical SDH outcomes. Training government staff on project proposal development, including logical framework analysis. Facilitate the development and submission of grant proposals addressing regional SDH, and present to stakeholders.
- Define a Capacity Building Plan for the SDH Program and support MoH in regional grant management. Facilitate the functioning of SDH Program Steering Committees at federal and regional levels. Develop baseline indicators and a Performance Assessment Framework in collaboration with research grantee. Assist MoH in assessing M&E systems and monitoring the SDH program. Support RHBs in consolidating bi-annual performance reports and presenting them to Steering Committees. Provide financial management support to MoH and RHBs for adherence to EU grant procedures. Ensure project visibility as per EU Communication and Visibility guidelines.
Results
- Development of Regional Grant proposals and project documents addressing social determinants of health, including gender issues.
- Capacity development support for regional states and the Ministry of Health to effectively implement their Regional Grants projects.
- Regular performance assessment and monitoring of Regional Grants according to the result chain defined in the projects’ log frames.
