Background & Objectives
The PRODERECHOS Program aims to strengthen Honduras’s National Human Rights System by enhancing inter-institutional coordination in responding to human rights complaints, bolstering institutional capacity, and improving local-level response capabilities. This initiative aligns with the 2030 Agenda, particularly SDG 16, focusing on promoting peaceful, just, and inclusive societies (16.6) and accountable institutions (16.7). Additionally, the program seeks to contribute to SDG 5, advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls.
Activities
• ProDerechos Technical Assistance (TA) advises and supports Honduras’s National Human Rights System, ensuring active participation of non-state actors
• TA provides strategic guidance in planning, executing, and monitoring program activities to achieve defined results and indicators.
• TA facilitates civil society proposal processes and develops communication strategies to promote human rights awareness and program visibility.
Results
- R1: Harmonize and strengthen regulatory and complaint management frameworks within the National Human Rights System (SNDH).
- R2: Strengthen capacities of key national institutions (SDHJGD, CONADEH, Public Ministry, MNP-CONAPREV, General Directorate of the Protection Mechanism) to fulfill human rights mandates.
- R3: Strengthen local-level human rights institutions in prioritized areas to improve access and efficient resolution of human rights complaints.
- R4: Enhance capacities of civil society human rights organizations and organize them into local platforms.
- R5: Promote awareness among companies of their human rights responsibilities and integrate these into policies and activities.
