Background & Objectives

The Haitian government, with support from the World Bank, is implementing the PSJET Project to provide technical and financial assistance to MSMEs in order to generate new employment opportunities. PSJET will target formal, high-employment-generating enterprises in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, agribusiness, and the tertiary sector, operating in the five (5) geographic departments of the Grand North (North-East, North, North-West, Artibonite, and Centre). At the macroeconomic level, PSJET aims to support the recovery of economic growth in Haiti, tackle endemic unemployment, and help strengthen and expand project-driven enterprises until the project’s completion.

Activities

  • Raising awareness and providing business support to entrepreneurs.
  • Training MSMEs in business management, financial skills, digital payments, and environmental/social risk management.
  • Georeferencing MSMEs and collecting performance data through digital tools.
  • Assisting MSMEs in preparing investment plans and accessing grant funding.
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental, social, and procurement standards.
  • Maintaining financial management, reporting, and accountability.
  • Producing regular reports on training, grants, and project progress.

Results

  • 300–350 MSMEs benefiting from the SAEH Fund during the PSJET Project, receiving non-financial business development services and/or grants for investments and working capital.
  • Training and mentoring of beneficiary MSMEs in the Grand North region.
  • Georeferencing of MSMEs and their activities through GEMS (Geo Enabling for Monitoring and Supervision).
  • Creation of a systematized data registry for MSMEs.
  • Support for economic growth recovery in Haiti, particularly in the Grand North (five departments, 60 communes).
  • Generation of new employment opportunities in the Grand North of Haiti.
