AESA Supports High-Level Engagement at the Liberia – EU Business Forum

Liberia is strengthening its position as an attractive destination for agribusiness investment in West Africa.

On 24–25 February, the Liberia – EU Business Forum took place in Brussels under the patronage of the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), with the support of the Liberian Embassy in Belgium. The event brought together government representatives, EU institutions, and private investors to explore concrete business opportunities in Liberia’s agricultural sector..

Strong Government Commitment to Agricultural Transformation

During the Forum, Liberia’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, delivered a clear message to European investors: the Government of Liberia is committed to facilitating responsible and sustainable investments that integrate commercial production, agro-processing, and value chain development.

PThe Government is prioritising integrated production and processing across key value chains:

  • Rice
  • Cassava
  • Maize
  • Coffee
  • Oil palm

These investments will combine commercial farming with structured out-grower schemes. This model allows smallholder farmers to increase yields, access markets, and improve their incomes in a sustainable way.

AESA’s Role in Supporting Agribusiness Investment in Liberia

Through the EU-funded Food Systems Governance Technical Assistance Project, AESA actively supported the Ministry of Agriculture during the Business Forum. Our team facilitated high-level bilateral meetings between the Minister and potential investors, financial institutions, and development partners.

This engagement reflects AESA’s broader commitment to strengthening food systems governance, agricultural policy implementation, and sustainable value chain development in Liberia.

Supporting Sustainable Agricultural Development Nationwide

AESA stands ready to accompany companies interested in investing in Liberia’s agricultural sector by providing technical expertise, institutional support, and strategic advisory services.

We are proud to contribute to the modernization and competitiveness of Liberia’s agriculture sector as a key driver of economic growth, rural development, and sustainable development nationwide.

The Food Systems Governance project is managed by AESA’s Africa Department under the supervision of Senior Project Manager Giovanni Cervioni.
