Background & Objectives
- Since gaining independence in 2011, South Sudan has faced ongoing challenges. Civil wars in 2013 and 2016 disrupted stability, but the 2018 Peace Agreement and formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government in 2020 offered hope. However, the country remains vulnerable to climate change, flooding, and insecurity, leading to severe food shortages affecting 55% of the population. Despite abundant natural resources, prolonged conflict has left 82% living on less than $1.90 per day. Agriculture is the main livelihood, but inadequate education and healthcare services hinder progress, while mismanagement in the oil sector limits infrastructure development.
