Harmonising the implementation of EU legal requirements in the fields of the Official Controls Regulation, border controls, and the use of the Trade Control and Expert System (TRACES) through the ‘Better Training for Safer Food’ (BTSF) Initiative.
Programme Objectives
The general objective of BTSF is to ensure a high level of consumer protection throughout the EU internal market and to increase levels of trade in safe food across the globe by the implementation of efficient, objective and adequate official controls. This objective is achieved by training the staff of the competent authorities, offering a better network and on-going dialogue with partners from both within, and outside, the European Union, thus contributing to a high level of expertise and competence.
The specific objectives are to train staff of competent authorities of EU Member States involved in the official control activities to keep them up to date with all aspects of Union law, and ensure that controls are carried out in a more uniform, harmonised, objective, and efficient manner in all EU Member States.
Training Activities & Audience
This contract involves the organisation of 21 training sessions (11 four-day and 10 three-day sessions) implemented across the European Union, with a global total of 650 expected participants.
Target Audience:
The training is designed for staff of National Competent Authorities, relevant Government Ministries, and Inspection services involved (or potentially involved) in EU official controls, border controls, and the use of TRACES. Participants come from:
- EU Member States and Candidate Countries
- EEA and EFTA countries
- Selected non-EU countries (ENP, Asia, Africa, and Latin America)
Expected Results
As a result of organising these training activities, the project will contribute to the consolidation and harmonisation of a culture of high and uniform food/feed safety and animal/plant health standards inside and outside the EU. This provides a sound foundation for the European industry to grow and prosper on the basis of Europe’s high standards of safety and quality.
