AESA, in consortium with RINA Consulting, is supporting the Indian Ocean Commission, co-implementer and overall coordinator of the EU funded program “Port Security and Safety of Navigation (EU-PSP)”, via a dedicated Technical Assistance program.

The first Steering Committee (SC) Meeting  was successfully held in #Mauritius from 19th to 20th January 2022.

The official ceremony took place in the presence of Honourable Mr. Alan Ganoo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius, H.E. Mr. Vincent Degert, Ambassador of the European Union in Mauritius, Professor Vêlayoudom Marimoutou, Secretary-General of the IOC.

The meeting gathered nearly 100 attendees, both in presence and virtually connected, from the 9 beneficiary countries, namely: Angola, Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, and Tanzania. Partner countries including Djibouti and South Africa (who are non-beneficiary of the PSP but beneficiary to other EU funded programmes such as the Red Sea Initiative) attended the SC in view of building synergies and links. Observers to the PSP including the Abuja MoU, Indian Ocean MoU, PMAESA, APIOI, RCOC, RMIFC, Red Sea Initiative and the Go Blue Programme also attended the meeting. The Implementing Partners namely: IMO, INTERPOL and UNODC were also in attendance at the meeting.

The main objective of the meeting was to:
– Provide policy and strategic direction of the implementation of the Programme,
– Agree on the tools for monitoring the overall performance and reporting,
– Identify measures to ensure coherence between the different Programme components,
– Agree on the overall calendar, communication, and visibility strategy,
– Take note of Programme progress in alignment to the expectations of the beneficiary countries, and
– Agree on major actions forward
