Background & Objectives
The EU air quality acquis is anchored by the CAFE (2008/50/EC) and NEC (2001/81/EC) Directives, which form the regulatory backbone for managing air emissions and emission strategies. The MoEU, under its Directorate General for Environmental Management, oversees these directives, intertwining their implementation processes. Action-3 focuses on drafting by-laws, capacity building, and raising awareness, crucial for smooth implementation and compliance with EU standards. This TA-contracted project aims to enhance air quality management aligned with EU directives, integrating climate adaptation and mitigation strategies to meet SOP and MAAP goals.
Activities
- Emission data will be prepared;
- Spatial and temporal distribution of emission data will be done with geographical information systems;
- Regional air quality model will be run to prepare air pollution maps,
- Urban air quality model will be used meter level distribution of pollutants in pilot cities;
- Air quality forecasting will be introduced;
- Measures will be determined to reduce air pollution levels (CAAP),
- Public awareness regarding air quality will be raised
Results
- Result-1: The emission inventory compiling/reporting capacity will be increased together with local data management in line with EU Directives.
- Result-2: The capacity within the institutions focusing on air pollution will be increased.
- Result-3: Modelling capacity of stakeholders will be increased.
- Result-4: The contribution of the population and increasing public awareness on air quality and air pollution will be improved.
