Intermediate Evaluation of the Food Security and Job Creation Project in the Gaza Strip

Description of the project and Services provided:

Agriconsulting provided the Team Leader for this assignment. The Project has been ongoing for the last six years in the Gaza Strip, without ever having been subjected to an external evaluation. In preparation for future planning, a team of three consultants, (two planners/ agriculturalists and an economist) spent 5 weeks conducting field visits within agricultural communities in the Gaza Strip. These were supplemented with focus group meetings and workshops, involving Project staff, farmers, farming and commodity groups, and public sector bodies. The purpose was to analyse the present procedures, main obstacles, results and potential of the Project. The output of the evaluation was a series of recommendations for Project staff and Spanish institutional donors, geared towards ensuring improved fund flow and use, to assure improved impact and sustainability of the Project's future efforts.
