Description of the project and Services provided:

The lower zones of the West of Cotonou, and in particular the basin XX, are prone to frequent floods. The floods and the consequent insalubrities of these zones, combined with the extreme poverty of the resident population, imply a high rate of the primarily diarrhea diseases twice higher than in the rest of the city. The goal of the mission was thus to ensure the monitoring and the control of the building works of drainage systems in the floodplains, as well as setting up the accompanying measures necessary to an effective organization of the services of management and maintenance of the works in order to ensure their sustainability

    The services provided included:
  • The management and the maintenance of the infrastructures
  • improvement of the planning capacities and development of long-term policies of the town
  • assistance to the appropriation process of the project by the beneficiaries (population)
  • The follow-up of the completion of the works in accordance with the defined standards.
  • The main works constructed were - approximately 6km of principal and secondary channels covered out with concrete with slope of 1/1 and basic width from 5 to 10 cm; approximately 2km of non covered channels

    with slope inclination 1/3; the construction of the bridge of Ménontin- carried on 30 m;

    A new channel under the road, two quadruple channels and 2 doubles of 9m length and 2.3m large;

    approximately 15m of footbridges, etc
