Description of the project and Services provided:
Performed activities included a broad-ranging environmental investigation of the Lower Omo environment, from the Gibe III dam site down to Lake Turkana, with particular reference to the Salamago, Nyangatom, Hamer and Dasenech Woredas of the Southern Nations and Nationalities People Regional State. The discharged services were meant to:
- Provide baseline information on the physical and biological environment and social, cultural, demographic and economic characteristics of the population in the downstream area;
- Identify and evaluate potential impacts associated with project implementation, and subsequent operation;
- Prepare scenarios and recommendations regarding measures that will minimize adverse impacts and enhance beneficial aspects;
Gather official and community attitudes towards the project and identify potentials and challenges for mitigation strategies;
