The primary objective is to ensure that the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) is able to support the development of the export/trade business in South Sudan and in the East Africa Community (EAC) region through provision of prompt quality controls and conformity standards. South Sudan’s exports are currently restricted to oil, minerals and a few agricultural goods i.e. sesame, groundnuts, hibiscus, honey, gum Arabic, etc. whose value chains are being developed to enhance production levels and export capabilities.
The specific objective of the Trademark East Africa (TMEA) technical assistance is to provide the SSNBS (The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards)with the capabilities to utilise the SQMTs equipment to conduct tests on all commodities at national and internationallevels to ensure producers, exporters and importers adhere to international quality and conformity standards. This will require that besides having funded and delivered laboratory equipment, the TMEA technical assistance will provide training on its use to the staff. The project will also assist the SSNBS to attain ISO 17025 level of quality management.
