The general objective of this project is to help increase the competitiveness of the sugar industry. It aims to build social capital by facilitating smallholder sugarcane farmers from social structures (3 tier system with village, mill and national level farmer representation) that meet their needs, a catalyst to empowerment.
The specific objective is to empower the smallholder sugarcane farmers in the entire sugar industry and to help them organize themselves in a better set up with an aim of earning more from their farming practices. The farmers shall be organized into a 3 tier organizational structure each with clear cut mandates.
