Today will mark 50 years of Earth Day and the theme of this years is climate action.
Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable.
For more than 15 years, AESA through its Climate Change Department has specialized in designing and managing climate change mitigation and adaptation programmes worldwide. We have developed and applied innovative and effective solutions for our clients as they faced the challenges of mitigating and adapting to climate change.
We are currently managing many projects related to climate change:
• Technical Assistance to ACP Secretariat for the Intra-ACP GCCA+ Programme and Climate Support Facility management
The overall objective of this project is to increase the resilience of the ACP regions and countries, to climate change and achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in particular its goal 13 “take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts” in order to alleviate poverty and promote sustainable development.
• GCCA+ : Support Programme for the Fight Against Climate Change in Togo – PALCC+
This project aims to support Togo in the implementation of a national response to the challenges posed by climate change. Togo vulnerability to climate change will be reduced through measures for the preservation of forest resources and soil as well as through energy efficiency; AESA is supporting, through its competent advise, the improvement of the institutional framework linked to climate change in the country, like the National Office of Development and Logging of Forests (ODEF) and Togo’s public universities.
• Technical Assistance to the Water Tower Protection and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation (WaTER) Programme in Kenya
The overall objective of the Programme is to support Kenya eradicate poverty through enhancing the productivity of ecosystem services of Kenya's critical ecosystems and enhance resilience to climate change of her water sources.
• Technical Assistance for Improving Air Quality and Raising Public Awareness in Cities in Turkey-CITYAIR (in line with CAFE Directive)
The specific purpose of this project is to support national emission management system and to help improving the understanding on the air and air pollution concept using bottom-up approach in the cities of Turkey within the context of ambient air quality in line with the EU acquis. Indeed, this project operates in line with the most important directives under the EU air quality acquis, CAFE (2008/50/EC Cleaner Air for Europe) and NEC (2001/81/EC National Emission Ceilings) Directives. Both directives are the framework directives of the sector and lead management of air emissions. They are the basis of emission management strategies as well.
• Technical Assistance to Enhance the Capacity of AFAD in the Adaptation and Reduction of Disaster Risks resulting from Climate Change in Turkey (Disaster Adapt)
The purpose of the contract is to enhance the adaptive capacity and resilience of stakeholders on managing the natural disasters induced by climate change in line with EU and international policies. In this context AESA is supporting the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) to determine the risks and identify measures and policy options for mitigating potential disasters induced by climate change, to benefit from the findings on reduction of losses, to build capacity in reducing disaster risks as well as developing technical, financial and planning options for increasing the climate change adaptation capacity and the resilience of stakeholders.
• Technical Assistance for Developed Analytical Basis for Formulating Strategies and Actions towards Low Carbon Development
The purpose of this project is to increase national and local capacity to prepare for medium and long term climate action towards climate resilient low-carbon development, which will gradually align with the EU climate policy and legislation by providing an analytical basis to support realisation of low-carbon in the long-term, specifically focusing on cost effective climate change mitigation actions related to buildings, waste, transportation and agriculture sectors of NCCAP.
Although COVID 19 is currently affecting the development interventions worldwide, our technical assistances in this field have adopted all necessary means to ensure that climate actions never stop, ensuring the sustainability and continuity of the projects.
Our experts are assisting the national and international authorities in developing tools, training modules and webinars, giving direct technical assistance in the implementation and development of climate actions and policies.
Speaking of this, an Intra ACP GCCA+ Webinar will be held on Wednesday 29th April, on the importance of Local Indigenous Knowledge for Climate Change; for more information check out their website at this page: https://intraacpgccaplus.org/event/webinar-on-local-indigenous-knowledge...
