In the framework of the AFD funded project “Improving the Marine Aquaculture value chain through technical assistance and the delivery of the required supplies”, AESA designed and constructed two movable units equipped for wild fry collection and transportation. The completely innovative system is functional for achieving the objective of increasing the wild fry survival rate during collection and transportation.
The two movable units can be transported with simple pickup trucks and are equipped with a complex system of transport tanks with aeration grates, double bottoms, filters and water distributors, separate aerators and thermally insulated walls functional to the acclimatization of the collected wild fries.
The purpose is to collect, acclimatize and disinfect (short quarantine) the fry caught in the wild, in order to prevent the spreading of diseases and to substantially reduce the high level of mortality associated to a direct transfer to rearing ponds and structures of the wild fry and juveniles. This is especially true for the acclimatization the Grey Mullet cultured species.
The two units have been delivered to the General Authority for Fish Resources Development of Egypt (GAFRD) to whom AESA TA Team will provide direct assistance and training on the use of the units within the next three months.
